Procedures on how to treat periodontitis

Many do not take gum diseases seriously. They think that a simple tooth brushing and gargling of mouthwash can do away the pain once the gum problem has become serious. True, that it can, however, if a simple gingivitis is untreated during its earlier stage then it may progress to periodontitis.

A periodontitis disease is a severe gum problem that affects the sensitive, soft tissues in your gums. Moreover, it also slowly destroys the supporting bones of your teeth.  If these persist, there is a great possibility that you will lose your tooth one by one.  Periodontitis does not happen overnight.  The bad bacteria accumulated in your teeth and gums gradually progresses and waits for its right time to be seen and felt. When it is ripe for surfacing, the pain can be unbearable and excruciating.  Sometimes, patients have restless nights because of the intolerable soreness or ache they are experiencing.

Moreover, it is believed that adults over 40 and pregnant women are prone to periodontitis.  For adults, scientifically speaking their immune system is deteriorating.  Thus, they are more prone to diseases because their body is unable to protect them unlike when they were young.  In addition, pregnant women’s hormonal changes affect their health. Hence they are more prone to acquire gum disease.  Plus, if periodontitis continues to progress there is a great possibility that they will give birth earlier than expected.  They call it preterm birth. This can be very dangerous to both the mother and the baby.  That is why it is recommended that they see a dentist for check up during their pregnancy.

You do not have to worry or panic simply because periodontitis can be treated.  There are many available treatments for periodontitis.  One periodontitis disease treatment is scaling. Scaling is usually accompanied by root planing. These are the conventional way of cleaning your teeth and gums.  These processes are called deep cleaning which different from prophylaxis.  Remember that these procedures are only performed by professional dentist.

Second way of treating periodontal disease is through guided tissue regeneration. This process helps the affected supporting bones to re-grow.  Third way is bone grafting.  This procedure is done when your dentist diagnose that your periodontal disease has destroyed the bones surrounding your tooth. It holds your tooth on its place thus help prevent possible tooth loss.

All these procedures can be traumatic to patients especially the post surgery effect.  There are tendencies that patients would feel pain when the effect of anesthesia gone. Therefore it is best that you take good care of your teeth while they are healthy.

Self-Confidence versus Swollen Gums

Facing people with confidence is very essential especially if you are a people person.  Normally people you meet the first time will give feedbacks on how they see you as a person. How you say things, smile and laugh. It also includes your choice of words and your manner of dressing.
